1. The Avid Israeli Reader

The first paper crane I gave away this year went to a friendly Israeli who I met at a hostel in Bariloche. Sadly I do not remember his name, only that we had a thoughtful and stimulating conversation about books, reading, authors. An aspiring author myself, I appreciated his questions and suggestions. “What books do you like to read? What authors do you like? Have you read any Russian authors and may I recommend one? What books can you recommend to me?” I’m always reading a few books at a time, so hungry to learn more or get carried away in a story. I love to hear what other people are reading and why and their thoughts…it is an easy way to have a meaningful conversation without walking up to a stranger and trying to initiate a conversation with a super deep or personal question. “What are you reading? How did you come across that book? What are your thoughts on it?” or even “Read anything provoking lately?” vs. “Hi, tell me about your deepest passions. What inspires you? What are you doing with your life? What are your fears?” You might just get insight into the same answers; you can always learn something.

Right now I am reading The Art of Empathy, El Principito (The Little Prince in Spanish), and The Celestine Prophecy. What are you reading?
